SMAIAS-ASN SUMMER SCHOOL 2026

SMAIAS-ASN SUMMER SCHOOL 2026

02nd – 06th February, Dar es Salaam, Tanzania

THEME: Rejuvenating Pan Africanism

The 2026 Summer School, organized by the Sam Moyo African Institute for Agrarian Studies (SMAIAS) and the Agrarian South Network (ASN), will focus on reigniting and reimagining Pan-Africanism, which is under test during this critical historical juncture. As an ideology of resistance, liberation, and collective defense, Pan-Africanism has become more essential than ever. In recognition of this urgency, the 2026 Summer School will provide a platform for well-researched presentations, in-depth discussions in proposed roundtables, and both formal and informal exchanges aimed at promoting lasting Pan-African solidarity.

The Summer School is also occurring on the occasion that marks the 10th anniversary of honoring the legacy of Professor Sam Moyo, who tragically passed away on 21 November 2015. In light of this dual significance, the program will adopt a more focused theme to facilitate collective reflection on Pan-Africanism and related issues of contemporary relevance.

Researchers and activists are invited to submit paper proposals (abstracts) of up to 200 words in English by no later than 1st September 2025. Submissions should be made via the online form at: bit.ly/3IgRE65. Women are especially encouraged to apply. The selection of proposals will be announced on 10 September 2025 through our social media channels.
